Nothing quite like the pure intense groove of The Heavy Pets tonight at The Stage in Miami -- here's a couple vids to wet yer appetite.

The Heavy Pets are an American jam band based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Officially formed in 2005, they appear regularly at music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Langerado, the New Orleans Backbeat Jazzfest, Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, and their namesake PetZoo.

Currently the group is composed of guitarists Jeff Lloyd and Mike Garulli, keyboardist Jim Wuest, bassist Justin Carney, and drummer Jamie Newitt, with Lloyd and Garulli chiefly sharing vocal duties. In 2010 they released their second studio LP The Heavy Pets.

Returning to their acoustic roots on Swim Out Past the Sun, THP's guitar duo set aside their electric axes for a more organic approach. Showcasing the intricate unplugged guitar interplay offered on the new album, guests at the record release party will be treated to a Stop Making Sense-style performance that begins with Jeff Lloyd and Mike Garulli on acoustic guitars and builds to the full electric band including keyboard player Jim Wuest, bassist Justin Carney and drummer Jamie Newitt. Skillfully blending rhythm and blues, jazz-funk and reggae fusion with rock and roll, THP are masters at creating an infectious dance party and October 22nd is sure to be one of their finest powerhouse live performances.

Famed American painter, Mark T. Smith, who contributed Swim Out Past the Sun’s album artwork, will be signing a series of limited-edition screen printed posters commissioned for the occasion and the band will be available to sign posters and CDs. Terry Newitt (drummer Jamie Newitt’s father) will be painting live during the performance, and Original MOONSHINE® Clear Corn Whiskey will provide complimentary cocktails for a portion of the evening.

Inspired by the efforts of Positive Legacy, the non-profit arm of Cloud 9 Adventures, THP will donate a portion of proceeds from Swim Out Past The Sun sales between its release and the band's inaugural voyage upon Jam Cruise in support of Positive Legacy's community outreach projects in Haiti.

The Heavy Pets (THP) are an American rock band whose contagious vibe blends rhythm and blues, jazz-funk and reggae fusion with rock and roll. Called “a living, breathing, force of nature” by Relix, THP are known for powerhouse live performances and infectious danceable songs with thought provoking lyrics. The group became an instant Sirius radio sensation in 2007 with the release of their double-disc debut album, Whale, driven by hit tracks “Operation of Flight” and “Sleep.” First embraced by the jam scene for their raw talent, their cross-over sound that is showcased on their self-titled album and was dubbed a “Top 10 Album of 2010” by The Huffington Post, propelled them into the periphery of mainstream music. Returning to their acoustic roots on Swim Out Past the Sun (2011), THP's guitar duo set aside their electric axes for a more organic approach. Featuring a three song sit-in by longtime Jerry Garcia collaborator David Grisman, the album presents a fresh perspective from the ever-evolving quintet. Swim Out Past the Sun was produced and recorded by multi-platinum, Grammy and Oscar Award-winner Scott Mathews and mastered by Grammy Award-winner Vlado Meller. Major festival darlings, THP have taken the stage at Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Gathering of the Vibes, moe.down, Langerado, Summercamp, All Good, Wakarusa, Bear Creek, Mountain Jam and their namesake PetZoo. www.TheHeavyPets.com
